you truly are- but how willing is philly to send abreu away?
Muad'Dib- 12-03-2005
I'd describe them as being more than willing. There have been rumors about him going all over the place. Baltimore for Bedard, San Fran for Schmidt, etc.
Some more recent Manny rumors include Manny going to Texas for Soriano... I don't really want that. Supposedly there are a half-dozen team in serious negotiations for Manny right now. I'm pretty sure none of those teams is the L.A. Dodgers as they just signed Rafael Furcal to a 3 year/$40million deal. Insane.
Some more Wells rumors say the Padres might send Mark Loretta and Akinori Otsuka to the Sox for Wells and backup catcher Doug Mirabelli.
There's actually a rumor floating around saying that Nomar could be signed to play CF for the Red Sox if they can't get Damon. That'll be the day.
Winter meeting officially begin in 24 hours. If anything happens it should be this week.
senorfusion- 12-04-2005
abreu for schmidt would be a steal for my giants- schmidt is the giants' best pitcher, but a quality position player would be worth giving him up.
Muad'Dib- 12-04-2005
Ofcourse you'd need to convince Bonds to play 1B. It was something some writers threw out. Not sure what kind of odds there are of it happening, but I'd guess they'd be low. The only other San Fran I've heard is that they might try to sign Bill Mueller. He's getting pretty old, so it would seem to be a good fit for you guys.
Paul LoDuca looks like he's heading to the Mets, and if he isn't going there he'll be headed to the Diamondbacks. They won't be sending Milledge or Heilman, so it shouldn't effect any Manny deals.
Winter Meeting start at midnight.
senorfusion- 12-05-2005
bill mueller is an ex-giant, I love the guy, but I dont think the giants are looking for a 3rd baseman with pedro feliz having played so well last season.
Muad'Dib- 12-05-2005
???
The man had a .295 OBP. That's just really aweful, and it's actually higher than his career average. He's also 30, so it's not like he's a young pup who'll get better. It's understandable that the Giants don't want him or Edgardo Alfonzo playing 3B. They'd probably like to move both of them, but no team really wants anything to do with them. Feliz may have power and he's versatile, but he's not a guy a winning team would want to start.
The rumors say that San Fran is one of the team bidding on Billy, along wth the Dodgers, White Sox, and Twins...
The Giants are also trying to nab Matt Morris, which might not be a bad signing.
Muad'Dib- 12-08-2005
The Red Sox traded Edgar Renteria and $11 million to the Atlanta Braves for 3B Andy Marte. Marte will likely spend the year in AAA, but will be the Red Sox best prospect and is almost a sure fire future all-star. Think Eric Chavez with a slightly lower batting average and maybe a little more power.
Boston also traded back-up catcher Doug Mirabelli to the Padres for 2B Mark Loretta. Loretta will likely hit 2nd for the Sox next year.
The Red Sox are looking at Alex Gonzalex (FA from FLA) to fill the now vacant SS postiton. They also appear to be interested in a veteran back-up catcher, and don't intend to have aging prospect Kelly Shoppach (he's 25) fill the postiton. I guess they still plan on trading him.
It loks like the Sox should be able to sign Johnny Damon for about 4 years at $10 or 11 per. No other team has shown serious interest.
Some Mannt trades that were rumored to have almost happened are Manny for Tryo Glaus and Darrin Erstad and Manny and Trot for J.D. Drew and Bobby Abreu.
Not a lot of Giants news. Bill Mueller is liikely signing with the Dodgers.
EDIT: This just in: Miguel Tejada has announced he wants to be traded... are you thinking what every other Red Sox fan in the world is thinking?
senorfusion- 12-10-2005
that sounds like a good deal for the AAA shortstop, I've never heard of him, but if what you say is true, it was worth it.
poor johnny damon, not being wanted must hurt the old self-esteem, but at least he still plays for the good guys.
as for the second baseman, that's good, I didnt think the sox were very strong at second base this year.
as for Giants news, they let JT Snow go, that makes me a bit sad, as he had been playing for them for 9 years. He's been the first baseman for them for half my life, wow. good luck to him, he's been great.
Muad'Dib- 12-11-2005
The Red Sox are considering J.T. Snow as a platoon mate with Kevin Youkilis at 1B if they can't get anything better in a trade.
It turns out the Dodgers didn't sign Bill Mueller... the Pirates might.
Matt Morris looks like he's about to sign with the Giants.
The Red Sox have contacted Roger Clemens about pitching in Boston next year... I don't see it.
The Orioles say that a straight up Manny for Miguel Tejada trade isn't going to happen... well, yeah.
I got nothing to say really... I just wanted to make a post.
senorfusion- 12-11-2005
jt snow as a backup to youkilis sounds very solid to me, I just don't know how JT will take going from a every day player to a backup.
Clemens as a sox player? It just doesnt sound right to me. and morris as a giant would make me happy, as long as we don't overpay him.
and when the hell will Bonds come back and make a difference again?
Muad'Dib- 12-11-2005
J.T. would be a platton mate, and he'd be the one hitting against righties, so it wouldn't exactly be a backup. Besides, what team is going to give him a starting job?
Anyway, I'd love to see Clemens retire back in a Sox uniform, but the odds are heavily stacked against that. They'd probably need to trade Well, Clement and Manny and sign Brad Ausmus as the back-up catcher just to have a chance.
Morris is expected to sign a 3 year deal worth $25 million, and it's very much expected to be with the Giants. He's already told every team, but San Fran and a "mystery team" that he isn't signing with them.
I think it's just Barry being Barry.
Muad'Dib- 12-11-2005
Okay, ::clears throat:: I am yet again bored and whatnot... I'm trying to figure out a way to afford Roger Clemens. First, the economics, then the explanation.... why not.
1. Roger Clemens ~ $19 million
2. Curt Schilling ~ $13
3. Josh Beckett ~ $5
4. Tim Wakefield ~ $4
5. Jonathon Papelbon ~ $0.35
6. Keith Foulke ~ $6
7. Mike Timlin ~ $3.5
8. Guillermo Mota ~ $3.5
9. Akinora Otsuka ~ $3.5
10. Craig Hansen ~ $1
11. Bronson Arroyo ~ $3.5
12. Jason Varitek ~ $10
13. Brad Ausmus ~ $2
14. David Ortiz ~ $6.5
15. Mike Lowell ~ $8
16. Mark Loretta ~ $3.75
17. Alex Gonzalez ~ $2.75
18. Johnny Damon ~ $12
19. Andy Marte ~ $0.35
20. Troy Glaus ~ $11.25
21. Trot Nixon ~ $6.5
22. Alex Cora ~ $1.5
23. Adam Stern ~ $0.35
24. Kevin Youkilis ~ $0.35
25. RH OF guy ~ $1
1. Edgar Renteria ~ $2.6
2. Manny Ramirez ~ $4
Okay... now... I think there's about a 5% chance of Roger coming to the Red Sox (if that), and about 15 that this is the Red Sox roster.
This requires some sort of Manny for Glaus and a prospect trade, a Wells for Otsuka trade, a Clement for prospects trade...
I just wanted to know what kind of craziness it would take to assemble a competitive team with Roger Clemens. Actually, this team I have is still a little overbudget.... anyway... a man can carry on and dream and everything.
senorfusion- 12-13-2005
is youkilis (the greek god of walks) really only getting .35 mil? wow..
so the giants signed matt morris, 3 years, 27 million.. dont know if that's too much $ for a pticher, but if he does well it will be worth it, as the giants pitching kinda fucked them last year.
my dad says the giants are looking more to lance niekro to fill snow's role at 1b, that's a good thing I feel, niekro is cheaper and will make maybe a half dozen more errors at first base over the course of the year, and hits just as well if not better. wise decision by the sf front office I think.
Muad'Dib- 12-13-2005
Yeah, it's still only his 3rd year of ML service time... I;m not sure he'll ever be good enough to start, anyway.
Let's see... supposedly the Mets are trying to get Miguel Tejada to trade to the Red Sox for Manny... that sounds a little crazy and a lot unlikely.
Muad'Dib- 12-20-2005
The Yankees just signed Johnny Damon and i just threw up in my mouth a little. I mean... he's being criminally overpaid and if the Red Sox even thought about matching the offer (4 years $52 million) I would have disowned them or something... but still. It just came out of nowhere.
Alright... they've been discussing Bronson Arroyo (and maybe a minor prospect) for young Seattle CF Jeremy Reed. The kid was a top prospect before a bit of a disappointing rookie year last year. He should really be just as good as Damon by the end of Damon's contract and will be much cheaper... hopefully they get this done.
I mean they really have to start getting creative now.
Adrian Gonzalez (that young 1B I mentioned a while back) just got traded to San Diego. It's entirely possible that the Red Sox will get him back in exchange for Wells and he'll platoon with Youklis at 1B.
They need to go crazy and suck Roger Clemens dick or something to get him to come back. Then maybe they can use Manny, Matt Clement, Shoppach, Brandon Moss, Manny DelCarmen, Trot Nixon, Tony Grafanino (who accepted arbitration just to piss me off), any other prospect not named Andy Marte, John Lester, or Craig Hansen, and whatever else to get Miguel Tejada and Bobby Abreu... or something.
God, I really hope they have some shit in place right now.
