The automobile saga
I am absolutely amazed how one problem can turn into 6 more problems whenever it comes to a car. Sometime in June I ran into a problem with my car (which is a 2002 Chevy Malibu) where something in the theft-deterrent system shorted out and prevented the car from starting. $500 later and that was fixed, but not before getting a laundry list of other issues the dealer (the local Chevy dealer) wanted me to get fixed:
Coolant flush for $130 (which I knew beforehand needed to be done, and is due before this winter anyway)
Fuel injection services $130 (might improve gas mileage, I don't know...)
Fuel filter replacement $50 (odd, given that the fuel filter had been replaced a little over a year ago, maybe 6,000 miles ago)
Front right axle seal was leaking, fixed for $140

I took the car in today for the axle seal repair, and when I get it back they present me with a NEW list of issues:
Rear main seal leaking oil: $860
Front crankshaft seal leaking oil: $160
Lower intakes seeping coolant $715

All this, stemming from bad electrical wiring in the anti-theft system. I just wanted my car to start, not go bankrupt trying to fix it.
...oh yeah, I'm also due for an oil change (they recommend the $75 job where they inspect various aspects of the car)

Does anyone have an extra $2000 laying around that they're willing to send me to get all this crap fixed?
