Can a person be a Christian and a liberal at the same time?

I would love everyone's opinions on this, if you don't mind.

adjective: having political or social views favoring reform and progress

why in the world not? All a Liberal is, is someone who disagrees with its government. :?

I've just been getting some major hateness (word I just now made up) from Christians in this town.

Well you are supposed to respect youre governments laws and such (Romans 13), but I dont see why you cant disagree with it.

I think you might have to get a working definition of what a "Christian" is. If it's being defined as a member of an organized rule forming organization calling itself a 'church'... then you pretty much have to follow what that organization as a whole puts out... and in most cases that means you have to be a Conservative with a big C.

On the other hand if you define it as 'a follower of Christ'... then, yeah, of course.

I haven't really associated myself with a church in a while.
I had two separate occasions where I got hassled a bit by people from this certain church, and one occasion where a (person who claims to be a) Satanist hassled me.

The church people think I'm crazy, because while I do believe in God, and I do love him, I still have some opinions that they can't handle. This girl nearly bit my head off over a bulletin I put on myspace about the Golden Compass movie. I tried to walk away, but she kept arguing about it.

The Satanist guy asked me what I was. I said I was a Christian, and he asked me what denomination I claimed. I said I didn't claim a denomination. And the argument began.

No one loves me.

Its all about a relationship with Christ. While going to Church is important, its sometimes hard to find what that you enjoy. I got lucky on my first try to find a Church home. People are always going to have a difference of opinion of scripture too. Its open to interpretation in alot of cases, so I dont understand why people bother arguing about it, but people do, so whatever.
